Liberty Fairs – New York AW15

Liberty Fairs was our first international trade show, and what a nostalgic trip for the Harry Stedman team and particularly myself (Harry’s grandson Rick). The show was based at Pier 94 Westside Manhattan, just 2 piers up from where Harry would dock into New York back in his merchant navy days. Myself, Amy and Nell had the joyful task of setting up the stand for the show on the most miserable and rainy day. Once our hard graft was complete we decided to sample the bars of Hells Kitchen in true Harry style, the beer poured almost as much as the rain and before we new it we were skipping through time square, blinded by the lights and straining our necks at the sky scrapers like true tourists. My head the next morning did not thank me, especially with 3 days of Liberty Fairs to get stuck into. The show was an absolute joy, meeting lots of faces old and new, and chatting to everyone about our AW15 collection and what we’re all about at Harry Stedman. It was also great sending pictures back home so Harry himself could see his old stomping ground and reminisce about a place that had such an influence on the his stylistic and musical passions, all of which he held onto and brought back to Liverpool. Some highlights of the trip were hanging out in SoHo and eating tacos with Pete from Tellason (always good fun), drinking a few too many beers with our friend Jamie from the wonderful Pop Up Flea; and getting lost on the streets of New York trying to track down some of the stores we admire. A few personal favourites among the stores we managed to visit were- Brooklyn Circus managed by the charismatic Ouigi who has done such an amazing job with the place. Goose Barnacle where we got to meet with the owner David and share our passion of outerwear. Freemans Sporting Club was another great store and has the best changing rooms I’ve come across, a must visit for any discerning gent. Finally there was C'H'C'M' where we were privileged to get to chat with the ever welcoming Sweetu. All in all, we had an amazing time doing what we love doing, telling the Harry Stedman story and demonstrating the quality that goes into each of our clothes. We left just before the weather took a turn for the worse and now we cant wait for our next visit to The Big Apple!
